ORION EZRA, Sculpture in the Solar System: From Geologically based Earthworks to Astro-Sculpture, Leonardo, Vol.18, N°3, pp. 157-160, 1985

The author conceives of the geologic structures inthe Negev desert in southern Israel and the Sinai desert as "lauchingpads" for the mind. This concept first evolved from his interpeting globalplate tectonics as scultpure and then motivated him to produce a stonestaircase in the Annapurna basin of the central Himalayas. The processhas culminated in a project proposal to the U.S. National Aeronautics andSpace Administration for the execution of sculptural works by the futureMars Rovers as a first step towards sculpture on other planets in the solarsystem.
