HEMPSELL C.M., Representational Space Art - Where is the Aesthetic ?, 47th International Astonautical Congress, Beijing, China, 1996
The paper examines the purpose and intention of Representational Space Art,particularly that with astronautical content by exploring its aesthetic content. While superficially is purely illustrative, it is argued that such work doeshave a double aesthetic content underlying it : a popular aesthetic relatingto the content of the image and an engineering aesthetic relating to theingenuity inherent within the system depicted. It is concluded that the realisticforms of space art have a broadly similar aesthetic objective as theSemi-abstract forms, conveying emotional responses to humanity and space, but it achieves it in different ways and with different emphasises.
